ree

ST. LOUIS, MO — What. A. Weekend. The TSI 5th Grade Girls took Saint Louis by storm and are bringing a National Championship back to Southern Indiana after an unforgettable run at the Reebok World Championships!

The girls didn’t just play well — they dominated, inspired, and showed what it means to play TSI Team Basketball. It all started in pool play on Friday, where they opened the tournament with a 37-13 rout of the Future Devils. Every player got involved in the scoring, defense, and hustle — a true team win!

They followed that up with a 31-5 beatdown of the Arkansas Bandits, led by Averie Hubbard (Southwestern), who was named Reebok's Game MVP after absolutely owning the paint on both ends.

But then came adversity.

In their third and final pool play game, TSI faced off with the tough and talented TC Hoops. The girls struggled against the Hoops’ transition offense, dropping their only game of the tournament, 26-17. TC Hoops was sharp, fast, and well-coached — and they made TSI pay for every defensive mistake.

Fast forward to Sunday — tournament time.

In the semifinals, TSI got another shot at the Future Devils — and once again took care of business, rolling to a 32-11 win. This time it was Breanna Harden (Madison) who lit it up, knocking down shots from all over the court and leading the scoring charge.

Then came the Championship Rematch: TSI vs. TC Hoops — the only team that had beaten TSI all weekend.

And it started just like the last time. TC Hoops brought the pressure — hard. By halftime, they were up 12-4. With 8 minutes to play, TSI trailed 18-6, and the crowd was buzzing.

But that’s when the magic happened.

The girls turned up their own full-court press — the same one that hadn’t worked in pool play — and this time it hit like a storm. Turnover after turnover, the energy flipped. The crowd was on its feet. Momentum shifted. The comeback was real.

With time winding down:

  • Kinzleigh Cross (Scottsburg) knocked down a huge step-back 3.

  • Averie Hubbard converted a 3-point play the old-fashioned way.

  • And finally, Cross came up with a steal and layup to seal the deal.

TSI wins 22-20.National Champs.

Cross was named Reebok MVP of the Championship Game, and every girl on the team earned their place in TSI history.
