The TSI Prime 6th Grade Boys—better known as “The Title Team”—were back on the hardwood this past weekend, putting on another masterclass performance at the MYT Best of the Midwest Tournament. With Coach Layman at the helm, this powerhouse 2031 squad has been on a tear all spring, racking up a stunning 23-2 record on the season. And this weekend? It was business as usual: total domination.
Saturday Pool Play – Setting the Tone
In Game 1, Prime wasted no time making a statement. They rolled past BGB 47-16 behind Kyson Baker ("Austin"), who dropped 15 points and snagged 4 rebounds. The scoreboard lit up with contributions from eight different players, showcasing Prime’s trademark balance and depth.
Game 2 brought a familiar foe—Southern Elite. Though a strong squad, they were no match for Prime’s relentless pressure defense, "We Be Press-N". Prime exploded out of the gates and never let up, coasting to a 61-21 win. Hudson Jones and Mason Harvey (both from "Crothersville") tallied 14 and 9 points respectively, while Izzak Cole-Fox ("Scottsburg") matched Harvey with 9. Harvey dominated the glass with 7 rebounds, and Kole White ("Austin") dished out 3 assists to lead the playmaking effort.
Sunday Tournament Play – One Goal, One Team
Sunday’s bracket play kicked off with a bye, giving Prime a little extra rest before facing BGB again. But the result was the same: pure dominance, this time in a 65-31 victory. White led with 14 points, Harvey added 12, and Byron Hough ("Scottsburg") contributed 11. On the boards, Bryson Layman ("Crothersville") snagged 4 rebounds, while Jones and Ryker Alday ("Silver Creek") handed out 3 assists apiece.
The championship game against Hoop Dreams BTC Elite was the final act—and it started with fireworks. Prime exploded to an 11-0 lead and never looked back, cruising to a 55-27 win and adding yet another trophy to the case. Jones led the scoring again with 12 points, but this was truly a team win, with nine players putting points on the board. Harvey continued his rebounding streak with 5 boards, while White and Fox each added 2 assists to round out a well-oiled team performance.
Looking Ahead – Bigger Challenges Await
Coach Layman’s squad isn’t just looking to win—they’re looking to be tested. Next stop: Under Armour Summer Blast in Cincinnati, OH. With only one 6th grade team that has really challenged Prime all spring, this group is hungry to face the best. Southern Indiana’s 2031 class is absolutely loaded, and Prime is leading the charge.
This group must avoid complacency and over confidence. Just when you think you're the King of the mountain, along comes another team who wants it more.
The Title Team isn’t just chasing trophies—they’re chasing greatness.
