Friday night was another statement game for Andrew Nussbaum, and the Southwestern Hanover sophomore continues to show why his impact goes far beyond the box score. In a convincing 75–44 win over New Washington, the 5'11" guard filled it up offensively while setting the tone on both ends of the floor.
Nussbaum knocked down 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, finishing with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, showcasing the confidence and poise of a player who looks right at home at the varsity level. Averaging double figures in his first season of varsity basketball, Nussbaum has quickly become a reliable scoring option for the Rebels.
But what truly separates Andrew from the pack is what doesn’t always show up in the stat line.
With his long arms, quick feet, and feisty mindset, Nussbaum has developed into a potential lock-down defender, often drawing the tough assignment of guarding the opposing team’s best scoring guard. He disrupts passing lanes, applies relentless ball pressure, and makes life miserable for anyone trying to initiate offense against Southwestern.
That defensive edge could be the difference-maker for a Rebels team with big goals. Southwestern has its sights set on bringing home its first sectional title since 2021, and players who can change games on the defensive end are invaluable in tournament time.
If the Rebels are going to make a deep postseason run and get Coach Nussbaum back to the regional, don’t be surprised if Andrew Nussbaum is right in the middle of it—knocking down timely shots, locking up elite guards, and doing all the little things that lead to winning basketball.
🔥 Impact player. Defensive stopper. Winning mindset. Andrew Nussbaum is just getting started.
