Sometimes all a player needs is an opportunity—and Andrew Nussbaum has absolutely taken off with his. The Southwestern Hanover sophomore is in the middle of a breakout varsity season, making the most of his minutes and proving he belongs under the bright lights on Friday nights.
Nussbaum put on a show recently on the road at Milan, delivering one of his biggest performances to date. Andrew was cooking from all over the floor, knocking down shots with confidence and poise, and finished the night with 24 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in an important 68–57 Rebels road win. Big-time bucket getting in a hostile environment? Check. ✔️
Most fans already know Andrew for his deep shooting range—and for good reason. Once he crosses half court, defenses better be on high alert. He’s a certified shooter and a walking bucket who can change a game in a hurry. But what’s made this season even more impressive is what Nussbaum has returned to doing—the stuff that defined him when he was just a youngster.
Lockdown.
Relentless.
Pest.
Andrew has gone back to locking down the opponent’s best scoring guards, turning games into absolute nightmares for anyone matched up against him. He pressures the ball, blows up offensive rhythm, and competes every possession. Simply put: Andrew Nussbaum is a defensive DAWG, and opposing guards hate seeing his name next to theirs in the scouting report.
Between his shooting touch, growing confidence, and elite perimeter defense, Nussbaum is making a serious impact—and he’s making the Southwestern varsity coaching staff look pretty smart these days too.
This breakout season feels like just the beginning. Keep an eye on Andrew Nussbaum… Southern Indiana hoops is definitely starting to notice. 🔥🏀
